First Grade

Ben actually started first grade 3 weeks ago, so I am a little behind. But I wanted to post some pictures.

He has had a little bit of a rough start, but today was a good day, so I am hoping the first couple of weeks were just rough because he was adjusting....

The kids have been doing some really cute things lately. Lauren has been a little under the weather, so she stayed home from school today and yesterday. She is okay now. But when Rodney picked Ben up yesterday, Ben just started making small talk with Lauren. It went a little like this:
Ben: So, Lauren, what did you do today?
Lauren: Stop talking to me!
Ben: Did you have a good day? Did you watch Dora?

It was really just funny, because Ben rarely talks to Lauren like that. Today, when we were at Target, I was walking a little ahead of them and Ben kept running back to guide Lauren. He would put his arm on her back and push her a little to get her to move in the right direction. She actually did NOT like this and kept pushing him away. I had to tell Ben a couple of times that Lauren doesn't like that and sometimes babies like to do things by themselves. Eventually she was okay with it and was explaining to me that he was just helping her.

Wed night, when Lauren was at the beginning stages of not feeling well. (She had a fever) Ben was lying on the couch under the blanket and telling Lauren to go get him a pillow. She would go get it, even though she wasn't feeling her best. I told him to stop making her do things for him, because she wasn't feeling well. He says she likes it.

He did it again last night. We have a rule for Ben and Lauren to take their plate to the kitchen when they are done at the table. Well, Ben had Lauren take his plate for him. She didn't mind. She would gladly cater to his every need.

Rodney, as a big brother himself, explains to me that that is just the way of things when you have a younger sibling.

Also, she wants anything Ben has. On the way home tonight, Ben announced that he wanted mac and cheese for dinner and 5 seconds later, Lauren announces she wants mac and cheese for dinner too!

Ben is really excited today, because his chocolate was sent home for him to sell for school. Although he is wondering when HE can eat some. But he also understands we will sell it too. SOOOOOOOO any of you Dallas friends and family, consider this a formal sales pitch for chocolate bars and chocolate covered almonds!!! $2 each!! Support our child and his school!! :-) haha
